I recently bought some very expensive raw tahini to make something. of course I forgot what it was. So today I was inspired to make some hummus. Hummus is made with chickpeas that are usually roasted. When I went to Whole Foods today I bought a 4oz thing of sprouted chickpeas. Lots of raw hummus recipes use all kinds of substitues for chickpeas (garbanzo beans,) and I wanted to find one with the real thing. I ended up finding a couple videos on youtube that were ok. In the end I just k... Continue reading ...

Didn't take any pictures. BUT, I just mixed together a handful of cashews with a few pierces of pineapple, a few dates, left over almond milk, meat from one young coconut and ice. blended it until insanely smooth. oh man it was awesome. I have a witness. Continue reading ...

I've had a lot of late nights recently and wasn't getting up as early in the mornings as I usually do to prepare food for the day. In an effort to save time and still eat a healthy and filling breakfast all week long I concocted some granola that lasted pretty much the whole week. I mixed together (in no specific amounts) cashews, almonds, brazil nuts, walnuts, pecans, macadamia nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, dates, figs, and dry coconut, all raw. I chopped them all up ... Continue reading ...

You'll need to have a dehydrator for this. I love mine and use it all the time. This is an idea I wrote down from someone's blog I was on, don't remember who or where. I'm not a huge fan of eggplant and these take some getting used to, but if you like eggplant than this is for you. The first time I did this I wanted to try the fance slicing blade on my food processor for the first time so I made very thin eggplant slices. It's better making slices about 1/4" or so thick. Once dehydrated... Continue reading ...

Went to Animal Acres in Acton to take a raw food class from the amazing Ani Phyo. She made a chocolate shake, Chocolate cake, pecan cookies, and tart thingies. Her new book is a dessert recipe book. You can get it at www.aniphyo.com or any bookstore. Animal Acres is an animal sanctuary (in Acton, Ca, just outside Los Angeles)for farmed animals who never made it to slaughter. For an awesome cashew "milk" blend 1 cup of cashews with a few cups of filtered water. add some dates or agave sy... Continue reading ...

Kombucha! 10 cups water/tea. dissolve 1 cup raw sugar. must let it set to room temperature. Must be in a glass container. spoon in the slimey kombucha culture floating in a bottle of Kombucha from the store. Cover and let it sit in a dark place at room temperature. I put my jugs in my oven that I don't use. Let it sit for 2 weeks. presto! you have kombucha. refridgerate. I mix with juice and drink almost everyday. if you have a second glass jug you can put the culture you have in... Continue reading ...

Started working on the website today. wanna promote Ani's "uncooking" class at Animal Acres this Saturday. Last Saturday was halloween and I spent the weekend in Las Vegas. I worked at an event at the VooDoo Lounge night club on the roof of the Rio Hotel on Halloween night. It was just horrible having to share the dressing room with the go-go dancers! The picture below is from our afternoon walk through of the club. There are a couple raw restaurants in Vegas, but I didn't have any free ... Continue reading ...
