Fortune cookies

Posted by John Johnson on Thursday, June 24, 2010,

These are from Matthew Kenney's book "Entertaining in the Raw."  They're flax based so you'll have to be down with flax.  If not, I think grinding up some sesame seeds might work.  In any case, they're pretty good, and of course you gotta put some good fortunes in them.  I had some like "Heat is murder" and "Just say no to milk."

dinner last night

Posted by John Johnson on Wednesday, June 23, 2010,
Great night last night using the telescope.  Glad it's warming up.  Laura suprised me with dinner last night from "Good to Go" in Huntington Beach.  Hard to believe there's a raw vegan joint close to me and I didn't know it.  The Brazil Nut Veggie Patty rocked my world so hard I can't stand it.  I'm still eating the giant portion of nachos.  we had a brownie for dessert and some kind of donut hole thing.  This place is great and so close to Long Beach.

cheezecake time!

Posted by John Johnson on Monday, June 21, 2010,

I think "cheezecake" is one of the most popular dishes to make raw.  Most raw stuff is easy to make anyways, but cheezecake can be soooooo good.  This recipe is from Ani's dessert book.  I put some rasperry sauce, raw vegan chocolate sauce, and dried coconut

spinache quiche II

Posted by John Johnson on Tuesday, June 15, 2010,
Like I said in the last post, I got up this morning to make my (raw, vegan) spinache quiche.  This is now in my dehydrator and I'm gonna have to find a way to get out of work in a few hours to take it out.  Maybe I'll just figure out how to use the little timer thing I have but don't use.  the recipe is in "Ani's Essentials."  if you don't already have this book you're late, it's been out for like 2 weeks.  Visit www.JohnJohnsonOnline.com to watch the countdown to Futurama!  ...

Spinach quiche

Posted by John Johnson on Tuesday, June 15, 2010,
I just put a quiche crust in the dehydrator from Ani's new "Essentials" book.  I'll get up early in the morning and make the filling.  I was reading the "green smoothie" part of her book today.  I already know I don't get a lot of greens in my diet, and need more.  Well I hit a personal landmark tonight.  I made a fruit smoothie with some spinach in it.  Banana, pineapple, juice from 1 orange, and some dates, and of course about a cup of spinach.  The picture below is from my cell phone and i...

kale chips and almond coconut cacao date cookies

Posted by John Johnson on Friday, June 11, 2010,
The picture taken with my phone doesn't do these kale chips any justice.  I followed the recipe for kale chips from "Ani's Raw Essentials." I actually had these for the first time ever at our VEGAN UFC party in Huntington Beach a couple weeks ago.  Jen always makes the raddest vegan food ever and seasoned and baked some kale and it was awesome.  I was determined to do it in my dehydrator before I even saw Ani's book!  Well I followed her recipe and wow are these good.  I can't wait to try dif...

flax cracker with red bell pepper

Posted by John Johnson on Wednesday, June 9, 2010,

This is from Ani Phyo's new book "Ani's Essentials."  I've also put her Brazil nut/ Flax pancake batter in the dehydrator.  They look like they're gonna be the best ever.  Below are some old pictures of a chicken-less scramble and curry soup.

Put some coconut and flax pancakes in the dehydrator for breakfast in the morning.  Also, there's a picture of the tomato, garlic, flax crackers I made last night.

flax crackers

Posted by John Johnson on Sunday, June 6, 2010,
I'm back posting again.  Had to take a break and wasn't exactly able to post about a lot of what I was eating.  "Ani's Essentials" is available now in bookstores.  Listen to my interview with her on my podcast.  The first thing I was gonna make was brazil nut pancakes with blueberry sauce.  I was at whole foods earlier and they only had Dole brand bananas.  Dole and the WTO can suck it, so I didn't get to start my pancakes.  Maybe I'll have better luck at the farmer's market tomorrow.  I did ...
