I've finally discovered the world of chia seeds. I bought them a while ago and I don't remember why, but they never got used. Well Ani made a trip to Long Beach the other day and she mentioned chia pudding. So I had to ask... how great is this, chia seeds with some water ( I used fresh almond mylk that I just made) and some sweetener. Ani said use steevia but only had agave at home. dude it was so good! The chia seeds get all gelatinous in just seconds! it was freaking awesome. I ate... Continue reading ...

My friend Jill brought me a visitor and some home-grown sprouts to my work tonight. Thanks for both! I blended the sprouts with some spinach, sunflower seeds, strawberries, dates, and fresh orange juice for an awesome smoothie.
I've been adding sunflower seeds to my smoothies a lot lately. finally decided to sprout some myself. Then I gave them a light coating of agave and cacao powder. They've been in the dehydrator for a full day now. still a little sticky. I kinda thought they would ... Continue reading ...
One of my New Year's Resolutions for 2010 was to keep my car and driving record completely legit. Well it took until July 19th, but I know have my license back. Laura brought me a hommade arrangement last night of some painted kale! how great is that! The weird thing is I was looking in my truck for my registration this morning so I can keep it with my insurance card and found a ticket receipt for something I NEVER EVER saw before. In 2008 someone got a ticket in my truck for violating a...

Laura bought me a Ninja. with a name like that it has to kick ass. I think we're gonna go to Memphis at the end of the month to see an old vegan punk band from the late 80's do a reunion. living off of smoothies lately. this is my late night snack while i watch the season premiere of Eureka on the syfy channel. this concoction is juice from one orange. some rooibus tea, spinach, a mango, apricots, dates, and sunflower seeds.
i need a week of sleep for every night i'm in vegas. This last 4th of July weekend was pretty crazy messed up. I did eat some good thai food, ethiopian food, and of course at Veggie Delight. But one of the bar tenders at Minus 5 Degrees hooked me up with some free juice cuz I don't drink. Had the VIP section at Tabu, but I could only hang till about 4:30am. The highlight was my dinner at the very nice Nobhill Tavern at the MGM. Our wedding reception was at this VERY nice restaurant and I... Continue reading ...
Me and Valerie are doing Vegas this weekend for a 4th of July wedding. Eating well is gonna be hard, like always in Las Vegas. Dehydrated food is easiest to travel with I think. So I have dehydrated banana, pear, apple, kale, raw "cheeze it" crackers and banana bread (see previous entries.) and I'm taking like 2 gallons of filtered water with me, so I should be good for the most part. These are from Matthew Kenney's book "Entertaining in the Raw." They're flax based so you'll have to be down with flax. If not, I think grinding up some sesame seeds might work. In any case, they're pretty good, and of course you gotta put some good fortunes in them. I had some like "Heat is murder" and "Just say no to milk."

Great night last night using the telescope. Glad it's warming up. Laura suprised me with dinner last night from "Good to Go" in Huntington Beach. Hard to believe there's a raw vegan joint close to me and I didn't know it. The Brazil Nut Veggie Patty rocked my world so hard I can't stand it. I'm still eating the giant portion of nachos. we had a brownie for dessert and some kind of donut hole thing. This place is great and so close to Long Beach.
I think "cheezecake" is one of the most popular dishes to make raw. Most raw stuff is easy to make anyways, but cheezecake can be soooooo good. This recipe is from Ani's dessert book. I put some rasperry sauce, raw vegan chocolate sauce, and dried coconut . Continue reading ...
Like I said in the last post, I got up this morning to make my (raw, vegan) spinache quiche. This is now in my dehydrator and I'm gonna have to find a way to get out of work in a few hours to take it out. I just put a quiche crust in the dehydrator from Ani's new "Essentials" book. I'll get up early in the morning and make the filling. I was reading the "green smoothie" part of her book today. Banana, pineapple, juice from 1 orange, and some dates, and of course about a cup of spinach. The picture below is from my cell phone and i... Continue reading ...

I'm back posting again. Had to take a break and wasn't exactly able to post about a lot of what I was eating. "Ani's Essentials" is available now in bookstores. 8 days in Las Vegas can really strain the senses... Vegas isn't exactly vegan friendly either, but if you're prepared you can do it ok. There's even a couple raw restaurants. Just don't go to Las Vegas on a budget, unless you're me. I ate a handful of raw and so called "health" bars each day. By time I came home I was so sick of them. There's enough water in strawberries to be liquified and I poured it right on to a dehydrator tray. left them in for about half the day and that was it. totally awesome.
