First, I've been asked to be a speaker at the Animal Liberation Forum.  It's in April on campus at the state university here in Long Beach.  I've been involved in the underground punk rock, and now hip hip music scenes, for over 20 years, and I'm gonna talk about the role music has in the underground animal lib movement.

Second, this website is getting a pretty good volume of traffic, increasing a lot lately.  Glad you're here.  I've received emails from several of you this week alone, that's pretty exciting.  To kinda address all of you, here's how it works:

I've been vegan since 1989 and vegetarian since 1988.  I don't drink any alcohol or smoke anything ever.  I'm not completely raw, only about 50%, during the week, a lot more on the weekends.  I usually am preparing things in advance and my foods tend to rotate.  I might start soaking almonds in the morning, and oat groats at night and start dehydrating bananas on monday and just make a fresh fruit smoothie before work on tuesday and come home wednesday night and make some avocado fries...you get the picture.  Prepared raw foods from the store are so costly that I don't find myself buying too many.  I have a real challenge however making a lot of the complex meals in a lot of my recipe books, and I have several books.  It's not a coincidence that almost all of my posts so far have been from Ani Phyo books.  Her stuff is just so simple and fast by comparison.  Most of the other books are from authors who own restaurants, and I think are naturally inclined to work on each dish being really complex.  For me that's not practical.  I work tons and have things going on everyday of my life.  I don't usually have time for all that.  I've also met Ani Phyo in person and she was amazing.  I suggest you buy her stuff.  She has a new book that will be out soon.

I first "officially" ate raw food at one of the raw restaurants in Las Vegas, I think in 2000.  I'm a body piercer by trade and was at an industry convention in Vegas.  my friend Ryan who owns Glasswears Studios and I tried getting all the vegans together for dinner.  It ended up just being the two of us at some raw joint.  I think at the time it was our only real option.  The vegan dinner is still going strong and every year it keeps getting bigger.  I've never really been a fan of raw food until I was exposed to Ani's Raw Food Kitchen.  I learned only last year I have some weird liver disease.  It's something that doesn't usually make people too sick until it's too late.  Being vegan wasn't enough for me.  By eating raw foods I'm literally eating for my life.  I'll be having more blood tests on Monday the 25th.  Yes I'm scared.

Yes I love football and if the colts make it to the superbowl this year I'll be traveling to Miami for the game.  my favorite hobby is Astronomy.  I'm in college now, taking two astronomy classes.  someday I hope to have credentials to be a teacher.  today I've eaten some raw pizza for breakfast.  I'm out of it now but as soon as I finish this I'll start making more crust that will dehydrate overnight.  I currently have some of the cheeze from the last post in the dehydrator.  ani's book suggests making patties with the cheeze and breading them with different spices and dehydrating.  I used the spice combo I usually use for avocado fries.  see an older post.  I always have some mixture already made cuz I eat avocado fries several times a week.  I had a leafy green salad earlier and I'll make a smoothy tonight too.  I also have some dried apples and bananas to snack on tonight.

I have several things going on and you can check out johnjohnsononline.com to see what time it is.
