new blender/food processor

July 10, 2010

Laura bought me a Ninja.  with a name like that it has to kick ass. I think we're gonna go to Memphis at the end of the month to see an old vegan punk band from the late 80's do a reunion.   living off of smoothies lately.  this is my late night snack while i watch the season premiere of Eureka on the syfy channel.  this concoction is juice from one orange. some rooibus tea, spinach, a mango, apricots, dates, and sunflower seeds.

las vegas

July 6, 2010
i need a week of sleep for every night i'm in vegas.  This last 4th of July weekend was pretty crazy messed up.  I did eat some good thai food, ethiopian food, and of course at Veggie Delight.  But one of the bar tenders at Minus 5 Degrees hooked me up with some free juice cuz I don't drink.  Had the VIP section at Tabu, but I could only hang till about 4:30am. The highlight was my dinner at the very nice Nobhill Tavern at the MGM.  Our wedding reception was at this VERY nice restaurant and I...

Las Vegas this weekend.

July 2, 2010
Me and Valerie are doing Vegas this weekend for a 4th of July wedding.  Eating well is gonna be hard, like always in Las Vegas.  Dehydrated food is easiest to travel with I think.  So I have dehydrated banana, pear, apple, kale, raw "cheeze it" crackers and banana bread (see previous entries.)  and I'm taking like 2 gallons of filtered water with me, so I should be good for the most part.

Fortune cookies

June 24, 2010

These are from Matthew Kenney's book "Entertaining in the Raw."  They're flax based so you'll have to be down with flax.  If not, I think grinding up some sesame seeds might work.  In any case, they're pretty good, and of course you gotta put some good fortunes in them.  I had some like "Heat is murder" and "Just say no to milk."

dinner last night

June 23, 2010
Great night last night using the telescope.  Glad it's warming up.  Laura suprised me with dinner last night from "Good to Go" in Huntington Beach.  Hard to believe there's a raw vegan joint close to me and I didn't know it.  The Brazil Nut Veggie Patty rocked my world so hard I can't stand it.  I'm still eating the giant portion of nachos.  we had a brownie for dessert and some kind of donut hole thing.  This place is great and so close to Long Beach.

cheezecake time!

June 21, 2010

I think "cheezecake" is one of the most popular dishes to make raw.  Most raw stuff is easy to make anyways, but cheezecake can be soooooo good.  This recipe is from Ani's dessert book.  I put some rasperry sauce, raw vegan chocolate sauce, and dried coconut

spinache quiche II

June 15, 2010
Like I said in the last post, I got up this morning to make my (raw, vegan) spinache quiche.  This is now in my dehydrator and I'm gonna have to find a way to get out of work in a few hours to take it out.  Maybe I'll just figure out how to use the little timer thing I have but don't use.  the recipe is in "Ani's Essentials."  if you don't already have this book you're late, it's been out for like 2 weeks.  Visit www.JohnJohnsonOnline.com to watch the countdown to Futurama!  ...

Spinach quiche

June 15, 2010
I just put a quiche crust in the dehydrator from Ani's new "Essentials" book.  I'll get up early in the morning and make the filling.  I was reading the "green smoothie" part of her book today.  I already know I don't get a lot of greens in my diet, and need more.  Well I hit a personal landmark tonight.  I made a fruit smoothie with some spinach in it.  Banana, pineapple, juice from 1 orange, and some dates, and of course about a cup of spinach.  The picture below is from my cell phone and i...

kale chips and almond coconut cacao date cookies

June 11, 2010
The picture taken with my phone doesn't do these kale chips any justice.  I followed the recipe for kale chips from "Ani's Raw Essentials." I actually had these for the first time ever at our VEGAN UFC party in Huntington Beach a couple weeks ago.  Jen always makes the raddest vegan food ever and seasoned and baked some kale and it was awesome.  I was determined to do it in my dehydrator before I even saw Ani's book!  Well I followed her recipe and wow are these good.  I can't wait to try dif...
